Adam Foss is a former prosecutor and president of “Prosecutor Impact,” but today wants to discuss jazz music with ShaoLan. Described as one of the original art forms to come from African American culture, Adam Foss suggests that jazz music is the foundation of Rock and Roll, R&B and Hip Hop, while at the same time, being a style of music that defies lots of traditional musical rules. ShaoLan teaches him how to say “jazz music” in Chinese and then goes further to teach the words for “musician” as well, which is relevant because, despite being a prosecutor, Adam is also a musician himself. He even promises to sing on his next Chineasy episode appearance!

The word for “Jazz” in Chinese is 爵士. The first character 爵 means “nobility” and 士 means “scholar,” “soldier” or “gentleman,” so the “noble gentleman” is a jazz musician! Actually, this is just a phonetic translation so the meaning isn’t important in this case.
