Matthew Kressy is the founding director of the Integrated Design & Management. He wanted to bring together the disciplines of business, engineering and design, because he saw that while MIT was extremely strong in the areas of business and engineering, to add design into the mix would enable students and professionals, through collaboration, to create products which were just as practical, but much more aesthetically and artistically beautiful.

If you want to say “handmade” in Chinese, you say 手工. The first character,  means “hand” and the second character  means “work” (which Matthew points out that it looks like an I beam), so both together 手工 means “hand work” or “hand made.”
